Off the Planet: Surviving Five Perilous Months Aboard the Space Station Mir. [Jerry Linenger Books]
(McGraw-Hill, 259 pages with color photos)
Best-selling book that recaps Linenger's adventure. In a dramatic, first-person narrative, Jerry chronicles the crew's heroic day-to-day struggle to keep themselves and their mission alive. Beyond the events, the book reflects the triumph of the human spirit in the face of extreme danger. Personal. Insightful. Heartfelt.

Why a Fudge Store?
When traveling 50 million miles in orbit, Jerry noted that the Great Lakes region was prime earth real estate. He and Kathryn decided that it was a perfect place to raise their family. Jerry runs, bikes, kayaks, or skis into the small town Suttons Bay to sign books in the back of the store. His kids often join him, mainly to eat some of Michelle and Dales' delicious fudge, but also to add their autograph to the books and to help pack them up (newly minted entrepreneurs!).

About Jerry
Jerry Linenger is a retired U.S. Navy flight surgeon and NASA astronaut. A naval academy graduate, Dr. Linenger holds a doctorate in medicine, a Ph.D. in epidemiology, a masterŐs in systems management, and a masterŐs in public health policy. He has also been awarded three honorary doctorate degrees in science. During his mission aboard Mir, he logged fifty million miles in more than two thousand Earth orbits. He was the first American to undock from the space station in Soyuz spacecraft and the first American to spacewalk wearing a Russian spacesuit outside a foreign craft. At the completion of his mission, he had spent more continuous time in space for an American man. In 2008, he was awarded NASAŐs highest award, the NASA Distinguished Service Medal.

All of Dr. Linenger's proceeds go to help support local causes, primarily youth sports, so we thank you for your support. I hope you enjoy the books!
